Pappadeaux – The Atmosphere & The Customers
Apr/080
A second post on our experience at Pappadeaux.
As we were waiting on our food, I scanned the entire restaurant. The atmosphere was unique and very inviting. A lot of little touches made the place sparkle, like lanterns with real fire lining the walls. There were fish, fishing gear, pictures, etc. everywhere I looked. The lighting was unique and at the perfect level. Not so dark that I needed a flashlight to see the menu, but dim enough to make the place warm and relaxing.
The customers were dressed in every way imaginable. There was a business man in a suit and tie entertaining an international client. At another table, there were some farmers, wearing old jeans and International Harvester hats. They were all treated the exact same way by the restaurant's staff.
What does your church's atmosphere say to a guest? Sometimes, if you've been part of a church for a while, you can become blind to some things. Are there problems with your church's atmosphere that you never see anymore, but that will stick out like a sore thumb to a first-time guest?
Does your church react differently to guests based on how they look? Does their style of dress or their appearance of affluence or poverty make any difference? If it does, those are some big time problems that need to be corrected NOW! The Bible has something to say about that in James 2.
