Lincoln on Criticism

Since today is President's Day, I thought I would share this little gem from Abraham Lincoln.
"If I were to try to read, much less answer, all the attacks made on me, this shop might as well be closed for any other business. I do the very best I know how – the very best I can; and I mean to keep doing so until the end. If the end brings me out all right, what's said against me won't amount to anything. If the end brings me out wrong, ten angels swearing I was right would make no difference."
Great quote. Great application to anyone's life…especially a pastor or someone else in church leadership.
Todd Rhoades had some great thoughts on this quote from Lincoln. Check it out here.

Very good perspective… on everything we attempt to do in life. There will always be those who stand ready to criticize, and it all has to be put into perspective. Coaching basketball has re-taught me this lesson this year. I have had enormous support and praise from most of the parents, and one or two who want to criticize things. I had to stop and realize that if I am pleasing everybody, I probably am not standing for anything. Good post to start the week.
