Taking Some Downtime

I have just completed a marathon season of ministry. Other than being down for a week with the flu, I haven't taken a vacation day since early June. (I do faithfully use my day off every week.  I'm not THAT crazy.)  I've preached every Sunday, except for my sick day.  It's been a whirlwind, and I'm tired.

I'm not saying this to whine.  I don't expect anyone to feel sorry for me.  I don't feel sorry for myself.

I'm also not saying this to brag.  Some people brag about how much they work with no time off.  That's stupid.  It can even be sinful.

I'm not bragging…I'm confessing.  I need to do a better job of taking some downtime.  I am already working on a plan to make 2010 a much better year than 2009 in this regard.

But for now, the marathon stretch is over.  I'm taking some vacation time for the remainder of the week. But I do have blog posts scheduled everyday through the end of this week.  The only difference will be that the comments have been temporarily disabled.

If you're in the same situation as me, then I really hope you'll use this week's holiday to unplug from the insanity.  The problem with burning the candle at both ends is that you will eventually run out of candle.

Take some downtime with your family. (They probably miss you.)  Eat some turkey.  Give yourself permission to take a nap. Seriously…it's ok.

God didn't create you to be a machine.  You need rest.  He wired you that way.

We've got a HUGE Christmas series planned at ACC this year.  Thanks to some time off this week, I'll be ready to rock and fire this Christmas. Can't wait!
