The Song of Solomon
Feb/110
We are kicking off a new series at ACC this weekend. We are going to spend the next four weeks exploring The Song of Solomon.
If you've ever read the book (if you haven't, you should), then you know that this book is a compilation of love songs between a husband and a wife. And these songs are HOT!!! They are the most sensual, steamy songs you've ever heard…and they're in the Bible! How awesome is that?!?!
This series is going to feature a lot of direct talk about passion, sex, and marriage. So much so that we have a separate teaching session planned for teens starting on February 20. (The first message in the series is all about purity and godly dating relationships, so we obviously want our students to hear that truth.) I'm going to be preaching directly and explicitly to people of marrying age. We will be teaching our teens about Biblical sexuality in a way that is appropriate for those who are not yet ready for marriage.
This type of series is not what some people expect to hear at church. The problem with that line of thinking is that it ignores an entire book of the Bible. The Song of Solomon is part of the Scriptural canon, and it talks explicitly about the sensual, joyful, free sexual relationship between husband and wife.
And if the Bible talks about it, then we're going to talk about it.
