More Than You Bargained For
Apr/120
Sometimes you get more than you bargained for.
A preschool group in England had an Easter Egg hunt this past weekend. We all know what to expect at an Easter Egg hunt. There are a few moments of sheer madness as kids dash around looking for eggs. Then there is the time spent surveying the haul in their Easter baskets. Then candy wrappers start flying and the sugar high ensues. That's what is expected.
But that's not all that happened at this particular Easter Egg hunt. One of the kids found a grenade. No joke. This actually happened. If you don't believe me, check out the story here.
One child saw something brown and thought it was an Easter Egg. As it turns out, the kid found a grenade from World War II that had been lying there for years.
All they had planned was a simple, innocent Easter Egg hunt. Instead, they had to call the bomb squad. That was a lot more than they bargained for.
But really, that's the way Easter works. Easter always gives us more than we bargained for.
Yesterday was the day we set aside to remember and celebrate Christ's resurrection. The resurrection was the ultimate "more than you bargained for" scenario.
The disciples thought Jesus was dead. Instead, He rose in victory.
The Jewish leaders thought Jesus' movement was defeated. Instead, the church was born.
The Romans thought this troublemaker was out of their hair forever. Instead, His followers turned the world upside-down.
We thought we were getting a nice, safe, predictable Savior. Instead, we got a Lord who calls us to take risks, dream big, and live with audacity.
Easter always gives you more than you bargained for.
