Who Was, And Is, And Is To Come – Part 3

This is the last post in a series based on Revelation 4:8.

"Each of the four living creatures had six wings and was covered with eyes all around, even under its wings. Day and night they never stop saying: “‘Holy, holy, holy is the Lord God Almighty,’ who was, and is, and is to come.”

We've talked about the God who was and the God who is. Today we wrap up with the God who is to come.

In this series, we've already seen that God had no beginning. He is uncreated. He is also eternal, meaning that He has no end. God has always been and God will always be. He is the God of the past, the present, and the future.

In Deuteronomy 9:3, the Bible says, "But be assured today that the Lord your God is the one who goes across ahead of you like a devouring fire."

God goes ahead of us. Wherever we are now, God got here before us. And wherever we go next, God will also beat us there.

The future itself is uncertain (James 4:14), but uncertainty is a prerequisite for faith. If we were certain about everything…if we could see everything clearly…faith would be unnecessary (2 Corinthians 5:7, Hebrews 11:1).

By faith, we believe in the God who is to come. He made this promise in Proverbs 23:18: "There is surely a future hope for you, and your hope will not be cut off."

And by faith, we believe that nothing past, present, or future can separate us from His love for us (Romans 8:38-39).

So go for it! Yes, the future is uncertain. Yes, it can be scary. Yes, the outcome is not guaranteed.

But you know the God who was, who is, and who is to come. And that changes everything.

Uncertainty changes into opportunity.

Fear is overcome by faith.

God's promise trumps my perspective.

Enough with the worry and the fear and the limited perspective. When you really know who God is, you don't have any room left for that.
